Mini Horse at Fence

Thank you for your interest in River Crossing subdivision! River Crossing is a 164-lot equestrian community located in Bastrop County, Texas, between the cities of Austin and Bastrop.

We are about 15 miles east of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) and back up to the Colorado River.

River Crossing Improvement Association (RCIA) is the name of the homeowners’ association that oversees the business and the community of deed-restricted River Crossing.

In the 1830’s, some of the first settlers north of the Red River began to discover the vast and beautiful land of Texas. One of the prettiest homesteads was settled by Colonel John Caldwell, a lawyer who was paid seven leagues of land (about 30,000 acres) to defend famed Texas, Jose Antonio Navarro’s son on a murder charge in New Orleans.

After winning his client’s freedom, Colonel Caldwell traveled to Texas to survey his newly acquired property that bordered the Colorado River and extended from Bastrop County into what is now Travis County. Colonel Caldwell must have been greatly impressed, for he wasted little time moving to Texas where he set up farming and ranching operations, immersed himself in local politics, and raised a family of nine children.

For the next 164 years, the land has continued to be used to raise cattle, milo, corn, even fine registered paint horses. Today, part of that exceptional land has been divided into 2 to 9 acre lots called River Crossing. Just as it attracted Colonel Caldwell in 1833, the land is now home to a new generation of Texans to start our family legacies!
